Yes, you read it right, it’s not a joke. You can earn free cryptocurrency by playing NFT crypto games. Well, almost free. Initially you’ll need to make a small purchase, but you’ll be able to get it back in no time.
What am I talking about?
Well, I have a specific game in mind – Splinterlands. It’s a NFT based card game where you need to battle against other players.
The rules are simple – the best card deck wins. Ok, it’s a bit more complicated than that, as there are many battle modifiers and even more cards to pick from, and place them in various order.
But by winning a ranked match against another player you’ll gain the game currency DEC (dark energy crystals).
You can check out this crypto token here.
This game has been out for a while, but only recently it started really booming and at the time of writing has passed 100k registered users.
I too started playing it quite recently, but I must say that I’m impressed as it feels very well made.
During last weeks though the game suffered a bit technically as the devs did not anticipate such influx of new players, but they fixed it up quite fast.
But as a warning – Axie has grown tremendously and right now is rather costly for new players to enter.
Splinterlands crypto game
Now about the game itself.
As I first mentioned, then I needed to make a small purchase before I could participate in ranked matches and accumulate cryptocurrency – DEC.
It cost me 10$ but you know what I gained back that amount in just a few days! I did not expect that, i was certainly quick.
At first it took me some time to learn what’s what. But as I generally like card games then it wasn’t a big problem for me.
The idea is simple. There are multiple types of monsters that you can play with. Each monster has its own set of abilities, stats and summoning costs.
Once you start a ranked match random battle conditions are generated:
- allowed total summoning costs for monsters
- battle modifiers e.g. no ranged monsters or melee can hit from any postion etc.
- allowed monster types
Once you match with an opponent you’ll have some time to investigate the opponents last 5 games to come up with a strategy to possibly counter his strategy with your own card combination.
Once the battle preparation timer ends the match commences and a winner is determined who kills all the opponents monsters.
How much can you earn by playing crypto games?
Right now I make ~2$ per day (or ~14$ per week) just from the game itself. But if I count in also my gains from blogging about the game on hive blog, then that’s another ~10$ per week. That number could certainly be increased even more.
As you can see, if I pool everything together I’m looking at ~100$ per month just by playing a game and writing about it.
How cool is that!
My gains compared to seasoned players and whales are microscopic though. As e.g. just their accumulated cards often are worth 50.000$ and more. Crazy!
But it’s never too late to start earning.
While you may build your deck slowly, with a little bit of luck you could literally strike gold.
Just a few days back I saw how a new player obtained 12400 DEC from a single reward chest. That’s ~90$. Such claim pays the initial investment 9 times over!
And no, it’s not the biggest possible reward. There have been stories where people have gained 64k DEC or more. Now calculate that! In today’s prices that’s a lot.
I haven’t had such luck yet, but still 560 DEC (~4$) that I once received was rather nice.
Other earning options
You’re not limited only to the game itself. There are other earning sources that you can make use of.
I already mentioned that I blog about the game on hive blog. From there I can obtain another cryptocurrency (HIVE) which I can convert to a different one or turn it into FIAT money.
But that’s not all.
The game right now offers additional benefits by writing articles which can even further increase your potential gains.
I started doing it and I can say that I already reap the benefits.
